Isaiah 31:1,3

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the LORD. But the Egyptians are men and not God; their horses are flesh and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out his hand, he who helps will stumble, he who is helped will fall; both will perish together.

REFLECTION

God created the world and everything in it, including the people who live in it (Psalms 24). He provides them for us for our benefit. There is no problem working with them or even preparing them for war or for any other use. The bible says He is a jealous God. His problem arises when we put our faith in them.

How do we put our hope/ faith in them (people and material possession)? By continuing to depend on them without involving God in prayer. There is normally a great reason why we put our trust in them. In the scripture above the bible talks about the multitude of the chariots and strength of the horsemen. God will use people and what we have but we need to know it is not them giving us success but God. Your husband maybe giving you everything but realize what he has comes from God. Your job maybe paying you handsomely but God has given them those resources. See God in it not your employer or your husband. You may be bright in school but realize that only God can help you pass your tests and exams.

The bible says horses are prepared for war but victory comes from the Lord. God wants us to prepare and do our best but ask Him for victory that way our hope/ faith is in Him. The scripture gives us the reason why we should not trust in them, “the Egyptians are men and not God; their horses are flesh and not spirit”. They are not capable of helping us for long. They will fail at some point.

“When the LORD stretches out his hand, he who helps will stumble, he who is helped will fall; both will perish together.”  The jealousy of our God cannot allow us to continue trusting other sources for help. He frustrates them until we turn our eyes to Him.

PRAYER

Oh Lord God almighty, I come before your throne to ask for grace to be able to trust in you completely. To put my faith in you and not in the blessings you have given me.

Oh Lord, you created the earth and everything in it, help me to realize only you can give me good success. Forgive me for trusting in my own strength and the people and the things you have given me. Help me to know it is your grace that enables this people to be of help to me.

I return to you with all my heart, help me be prayerful and to involve you in my day to day activities. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
