Luke 12:28

“When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads because your redemption is drawing near.”

REFLECTION

David is a classic example of what it means to look up to God. Every now and then in the book of Psalms, he mentions of taking refuge in God. He looked up to God for deliverance and help. In Psalms 3 verses 1 and 2 He talks of his many foes. I love verses 3 to 5 where he acknowledges the position of his God in his life; God his answer/ solution. In verse 6 he says, “I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side”, I attribute his confidence in his knowledge of who he believes in.

There is a song I love that says “Show me the size of your God”. Your level of confidence is equal to the God you believe in.

Where do you go for help? This question has reminded me of Isaiah 31:1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy one of Israel, or seek help from the LORD.

Our depth in God and in His only begotten Son (Jesus Christ) is known during adversity. What do you do? What do you say? Where do you call first? As human beings, we are tempted to solve issues our way but the true test of Christianity is in solving them God’s way. If you continue reading Isaiah 31 you will realize Egyptian gods are vain gods. The Bible says, “God will destroy both the helper and the receiver of help. Have you ever wondered why you ran to somebody for help and they got into trouble? God is Speaking to you to LOOK UP.

Our theme talks of these last days. Luke challenges us when he says, “when you see these things happen, stand up and lift up your heads because your redemption is near”. By these things, Apostle Luke meant the signs that would precede the second coming of our Lord Jesus. Most of the prophecies have been fulfilled, we are in the last days and I want to echo his words and say “LOOK UP”, lest our Lord Jesus finds you unprepared. This is the time to trust God than ever before. This is the time to hope in His mercy more than before. This is the time to re-dedicate our lives to Jesus Christ. This is the time to preach the gospel more than before. This is the time to do good especially to those who are of the household of faith. This is the time to live the scripture; the day of our redemption draws near.

PRAYER

Abba Father, I want to thank you for letting me perceive the days we are living in. I pray for grace and strength to look up to you for help. Enable me to hope in your mercy. Teach me to do your will. I refuse to be caught unaware by the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Help me to stay alert in the reading of the scriptures, prayer in the Holy Spirit, and in fellowship with brethren. This I pray in Jesus’ name amen.
