1 Samuel 9: 3 – 6, 19 – 20

Now the donkeys of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. And Kish said to his son Saul, “Please take one of the servants with you, and arise, go and look for the donkeys.” So he passed through the mountains of Ephraim and through the land of Shalisha, but they did not find them. Then they passed through the land of Shaalim, and they were not there. Then he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they did not find them.

When they had come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, “Come, let us return, lest my father cease caring about the donkeys and become worried about us.”

And he said to him, “Look now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honorable man; all that he says surely comes to pass. So let us go there; perhaps he can show us the way that we should go.”

19 Samuel answered Saul and said, “I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for you shall eat with me today; and tomorrow I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart. 20 But as for your donkeys that were lost three days ago, do not be anxiouus about them, for they have been found. And [e]on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on you and on all your father’s house?”

REFLECTION

Our God is a mighty God who uses anything to get our attention. For Saul He used his father’s donkey. The Israelites had asked God for a king and He wanted to appoint Saul. The above scripture says, Saul and his servant had looked all over for the donkeys and when they could not think of any other place to seek, they thought of seeking help from a man of God. This is wisdom.

We are called by the same God and get born again the same way, actually when the curtain of the temple split on the day Jesus Christ was crucified, we were all given access to the holy of holies. The holy of holies was only allowed for the priests before the Jesus died on the cross. With this in perspective I want us to understand men and women of God carry a grace that we should all tap from. The Israelites understood this well.

There are doors we knock and knock with no success until a man of God is involved.  Do not die alone, maximize the grace on your pastor. Choose your pastor well, check his/her character and his/her depth in reading the word of God and also in his/her prayer life. At times we ignore them citing the ones that we hear and read in the media, who indulge in various vices. I want to let you know, there are true men and women of God in our midst who have not bowed to other gods. Elijah in 1 kings 19: 14 – 18 was hiding from Jezebel, when the Lord appeared to him he told Him that the Israelites have become evil and  had killed all the prophets of God and that he was the only one remaining, to his surprise God told him He has 7000 more whose knees had not bowed to the Baal and whose mouths had not kissed him.

Samuel anointed Saul to be the first king of the Israelites and told him to go home the donkeys have been found. This clearly shows; it was not about the donkeys but God’s agenda to have him anointed the king. Is there a prayer item you are praying for and not receiving the answer? Seek the man of God it could be God is saying something which you are not sensitive to. The donkeys went home alone, how wonderful!

I have remembered the window in 2 kings 4 his husband had died and left her in debts, those he owed threatened to take up her sons if she didn’t pay and when she went to Elisha (a man of God). Elisha told her to borrow jars and not to borrow a few, close her door and pour the little oil she had in them. When she did it all the jars filled up with oil. A miracle which saw her start up a new business. Elisha told her to go sell and pay her debtors and use the remining on their upkeep. What a faithful God! Elijah had the key to her problem.

I speak the grace of God over your life to lead you to the right man of God in Jesus name.

PRAYER

Oh Lord God almighty, thank you for the gift of life and for your word. I appreciate your gifts and the men of God that you have appointed to be of help to me. Please lead me to the right altar that I can be served and fed by your true servants. This I pray in Jesus name, amen.
