Hebrews 4: 14 – 16

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

REFLECTION

Jesus wore the nature of man that He could be able to reunite us to God. The bible says, He did not consider godliness as something to hold on but He humbled himself to the point of death so that you and I would receive the propitiation of our sins. We have a right standing in God because of Jesus Christ and the work of the cross.

A high priest would offer sacrifices on his behalf and on behalf of the people. The bibles says in Hebrews 5 that he himself was beset with weaknesses. In the scripture above Jesus was tempted in every way like us yet without sin.

Therefore, the bible urges us to approach the God’s throne of grace with confidence since our great high priest (current) is able to sympathize with our weaknesses. He identifies with everything we go through. This confidence should enable us to pray for everything and anything without feeling any condemnation. Let God be part of your life. Jesus went through it.

He was born on this earth and was scorched by the sun like us, experienced cold, was sent here and there by the parents (Can you imagine? A God head being sent to fetch salt from the neighbor? What kind of humility and love is that?), experienced storms, was mocked, went to the temple on foot, name them. Our Lord Jesus went through it all. He bore it all with humility because He had you and I in mind.

The scripture above says we hold firmly on to the profession of our faith. Do not loss hope, keep believing in God through Jesus Christ.

“so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need”

Mercy will help you where you have fallen short of the glory of God, Grace will empower you to overcome. Grace takes us to the next level. Grace brings mountains down. Grace lifts us from merely clay. You need grace everyday.

PRAYER

Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I come before you to honor you. Thank you for the gift of your son Jesus Christ and the work of the cross. Give me confidence to approach your throne that I may receive mercy and find grace to help in my time of need (name your need). Help me to keep my faith in Jesus and to profess it. Amen.
